Basically people think that if you want to live a sustainable lifestyle then you can´t have frivolous things, like a sparkly dress to wear on New Year´s Eve, but I say you can if you want to as long as you source it sustainably and pass it on responsibly, and I spotted one in a charity shop a few weeks ago and snapped it up (the idea was wear it for New Year´s Eve and then pass it on).
Unfortunatly due to a series of events I ended up spending tonight here on my computer and not wearing said dress, So here is my delema: Should I put the dress away with my Christmas stuff and whip it out next New Year´s Eve when hopefully I will have more success or should I just pass it on now?
Argument for the first option-I have never worn a sequin dress on New Year´s Eve before and I feel it is something that I would like to do once in my life! (While acknowledging that I have no intention of wearing it any other night of the year).
Arguments for the second option-The dress is wasted sitting in my wardrobe, I should send it out in the world where someone could make use of it and it might stop another new dress from being bought (with a teeny tiny ripple effect on production...which was the idea of dropping it back after wear), also who knows where I will be next year, what my plans will be and whether I will even want to wear the dress, and hanging onto something just incase is wastleful if it can be useful to other people in the interm!
You can see rationally that the second option is the clear winner, but no one is perfect and one sequin dress sitting in a wardrobe for one year will not have a huge impact on the world (so now you have to check back in next New Year´s Eve to see if the dress managed to get it´s night out).
